Cha-Cha-Cha-Changes
When we are faced with major changes we often do not see them as ways and means for emotional spiritual physical growth because we are in a reactive state that will not allow us to peer through the wreckage into another reality. This reactive state often turns out to be a pattern that, if we take time to explore, becomes the way we handle a lot of things that happen to us.
Sometimes we are mystified by the way we react and we feel out of control. We get into the patterns of a lifetime and the expression is beyond our ability to control. This pattern consists of all the experiences we have ever had that meet in that moment of reaction. Stan Grof calls it condensed experience, COEX, where all of the previous experiences come together in the moment. What this means to us is that we bring a reaction to the moment that is far greater than the current experience deserves. For instance, if someone stepped on our toe as a child and we were unable to express our feelings in the moment then when someone steps on our toe 20 or 50 years later we express our feelings in that moment which includes the childhood event when we were unable to express. The energy that is brought to the current moment is huge. The people around us witnessing the event are mystified as well because they cannot imagine that stepping on a toe could elicit such a reaction.
This is easy to talk about but difficult to actually grasp in the moment because we are in the reactive state that won’t allow us to see ourselves clearly. The key is to catch ourselves while in the moment so we can stop the reaction before it carries us down a path of no return. When we disappear from view others recognize that we are gone but have no idea how to retrieve us. In that time we are drifting between two worlds, a kind of no-mans land that is unreachable. The powerlessness that ensues when someone tries to retrieve us is difficult to understand as well because often they become the enemy without even realizing that their role has switched.
It is a most difficult situation that I pray you don’t often experience. I just want to let folks know that someone realizes where you are when you find yourself between worlds. If I may be of service reach out. There are ways and means to stop the reactive process if you are willing.
